Revamped ACERA

REVAMPED ACERA GROUP SET PROFITS HEAVILY FROM SHIMANO’S TRICKLE DOWN EFFECT

Echoing its big brothers, Shimano introduced today a revamped Acera group set. Acera is designed for entry level mountain bikes. Thanks to the trickle-down effect, entry level riders profit from innovations made for high end group sets. The main renovation of Acera is that there is a dedicated MTB and trekking version available. A 40-30-22T crank for MTB and a two dedicated gear combinations for trekking. Both feature mega 9 light drivetrains and have a better matching appearance.

MTB version
The first thing that stands out at the Acera mountain bike group set is the fresh and aggressive design of the crank and the rear derailleur. Besides the new look, the rear derailleur now features Shimano’s Shadow RD technology. Known from higher level groupsets like SLX and Deore. Shadow RD is intended for more aggressive riding. Because of its low profile and single tension construction, the derailleur does not hit the chain stay in rough conditions. Since bigger wheel sizes also became more popular in the Acera segment, the Acera drivetrain adopted the 40-30-22 triple crank and has a compact front derailleur. The new front derailleur gives more tire clearance for bigger wheel sizes and improves the maneuverability.

For a more clean appearance, Shimano integrated the shift and 2-finger brake lever. This gives a clean appearance and improves the cable routing. The enlarged optical gear display allows entry level mountain bikers to instantly check in which gear they are riding. A single shift lever is optional available.

The Acera mountain bike group set is available with hydraulic disc brakes that can be maintained through one way and funnel bleeding. The tough anti-rust components give maximum performance with minimal maintenance.

Trekking version
Since Acera is gaining popularity in the trekking segment, Shimano decided to develop a dedicated trekking groupset. The new trekking group set is silent, offers smooth soft shifting and is more durable. Compared to the MTB version, the trekking group set offers 2 gear combinations (44-32-22T and 48-36-26T) and has cleaner appearance. The crank and rear derailleur clearly shows the different design.
